What If…
What if we took a year to make incredible family memories? What if we visited a bunch of different friends and countries? What if we learned from the best international schools in the world? What if… These questions stick out in my mind from a conversation my wife and I had a few years ago.
As the months passed, “What if” became a reality. Through prayer, planning, and a bit of panic, we’re on the precipice of an adventurous journey which will involve multiple countries, more cities than I can count, and 15 carefully curated international schools.

Love for International Schools
My love for international schools stems from a journey which has taken me to Beijing, Bangkok, and Hong Kong to teach. This experience and calling to use my leadership skills to lead international schools led me to the University of Toronto’s Doctorate of International Educational Leadership & Policy program (IELP EdD). My thesis focuses on what leaders do to impact international school culture. The learning and connections I’ve been blessed with throughout the program have changed my life and I’m excited to build upon them on Adventure Year.

The Goals of Adventure Year
- Have a memory making family adventure, visiting friends and experiencing multiple countries
- Discover which school to lead for the 2026/27 SY and beyond
- Network with international schools and their leaders for the purpose of growing Josiah Marr Consulting
It’s one thing to go on an incredible adventure, it’s another thing to reflect on the journey and share it with others, just like Bilbo Baggins did in the Hobbit, so that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Funny enough, I read the Hobbit in Grade 5 and to this day it’s still my favourite book.
Adventure Year Series
So this is it, the start of the Adventure and the “Adventure Year Series”. Don’t miss a post, articles will be posted here and on LinkedIn after each school visit. Thank you in advance to the friends and schools I will be visiting and THANK YOU for reading.
